Mentorship

In a survey of LGBT medical trainees, 72% thought it was important to have an LGBT-identified mentor for personal development, valuing positive role modeling and shared understanding of experiences. Additionally, 59% of trainees felt it was important to have an LGBT-identified mentor for career development, with benefits of peer networking and professional advice. Pride Ortho's Mentorship Program offers:

Many of our Pride Ortho events are open to everyone! Some of our smaller events are members-only.

ALLYList

We cannot increase the inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community without our allies. We are putting our hope and trust in you! Being an ally is not just being on a list; it requires daily action. Standing up for LGBTQ+ students, residents, faculty, and staff; never making disparaging remarks towards anyone in the community, whether medical staff or patient; displaying support on your name badge or lanyard; and using pronouns are some of the gestures you can do to show you are a safe space for our community. Our Ally List is only available for Pride Ortho Members

OUTList

In a general surgery study, 57% of LGBTQ+ residents reported hiding their sexual orientation from co-residents due to fear of rejection and 52% from attendings due to fear of poor evaluations1. Unsafe environments keep members of our community from being "out." The most common reasons for not revealing gender and sexual identities were "nobody's business", fear of discrimination, and lack of support in another study.

However, there are known adverse effects on physical and mental well-being with concealing our identities. Our Pride Ortho OUTlist is an important initiative to increase the visibility of who we are as a community, advance the inclusivity of LGBTQ+ in orthopaedics and ultimately decrease health care disparities for our LGBTQ+ patients. The OUTlist is only available to Pride Ortho Members.

Membership Database

Pride Ortho provides a searchable list of all members to its membership base. Access to this list is an opportunity to connect with others in your field, reach out to a mentor, and network at meetings and events.

Committee Positions

Pride Ortho relies on member volunteers to serve on its various committees, including the communications, development, research, and mentorship committees. We greatly value the contribution of time and talent of our members serving on our committees. Committee opportunities are only available to Pride Ortho Members.

Student Scholarships

Pride Ortho offers student scholarship opportunities. All Pride Ortho student members can apply for the annual scholarships.

Research & Survey Projects

A member in good standing with Pride Ortho may submit a survey or research project to Pride Ortho for consideration for distribution to Pride Ortho members. Pride Ortho reviews all survey and research projects, and at least one author of the survey or research project must be a Pride Ortho member.
